Dog had ears cut off

A story on the news maddened me recently, an 8 week old Staffordshire Terrier whose 20 year old owner cut his ears off with SCISSORS to make him look 'tougher' so no one would enter his property.
Apparently this is what owners do to their dogs in illegal fighting rings.
This guy could go to jail for up to 2 years if he's found guilty and get a $75 000 fine. I hope he gets both, 1. to teach him a lesson and make him think long and hard about hurting an animal again and 2. to warn other animal abusers out there that society will not tolerate animal cruelty.
The poor dog did not receive any pain killers and sedation during the whole ordeal.
The dog who is called Van is now in temporary care with a Brisbane family and will be rehomed later. I want him!!! Here is a pic of him.

Sad. These stories are all too familiar and most of the time aren't even considered 'newsworthy'. This is animal abuse and I have been pushing the courts to impede stiffer penalties for violators. Most get away with a slap on the hand, at worst.
You don't say what area you are from, but I urge you to start a petition for the maximum penalty to be placed on this guy when his day in court comes.

Go to http://care2.com. You will need to become a member which only takes a quick sign up, there are no membership fees or anything like that. When you go to the home page after becoming a member, there is a grey bar across the top and one of the headings will read 'Petitions'. From there, you can make a petition about this particular case and it will be circulated electronically. You'll get thousands of signatures. You just have to be sure what court will be trying the case.
I urge anyone who witnesses animal abuse, whether it's an individual, a pet shop, a slaughter house, to make reports and have these people be accountable for their actions.

The poor puppy!! How could someone do this sort of thing to an animal? to look tougher? thats stupid! i cant believe they didnt get him anyhting for the pain! it must have hurt. the poor thing. i cant stand it when animals are abused and for such dumb reasons to!
the one who cut off the pup's ears should also have their ears removed, same way, no pain killers. its only fair. thats what should happen to every person who abuses animals, they get the same treatment, even if it kills them. and i dont care who disagrees with me.

oh my gosh! that poor thing. what a little cuty. it makes me so angry when i hear things happen to animals like this. i just read another story about this poor puppy getting abused by these two teens. i just want to spit in the abusers face when i hear things like this. i hate how people are so heartless to do something like this. i'd like to take a pair of scissors and cut his ears to see how he likes it!

Yeah, where I come from, animal neglect and abuse is a FELONY. People don't realize that they can go to jail for it, and I hope he s prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I used to work in an animal shelter, and I've seen first hand the results of abusive, neglectgul owners, and owners who put dogs in fighting rings. I think they should all be shot.

I can't believe it, if he wanted his dogs ears cut off could he at least try to do it as humanly as possible, the dog sure doesn't look scary it looks strange but sweet and cuddly, it's got such a lovable face. I hope the owner gets his just punishment and that the dog goes to a loving home that can treat it properly as I'm sure it has been through enough with the other creep!

What a beautiful little puppy!
How could someone do something so disgusting to such a gorgeous animal.
I know a lot of people do that sort of thing & it just sickens me to tears.
It would be better if animals were given as many rights as people do coz he would have gotten a lot more jail time had he done it to another person.
All i can say, is i hope he gets an ar*e whooping in jail for what he did & i hope that darling little pup can be rehomed (some dogs like that don't do well with rehabilitation) & be put with a loving family coz he deserved that right from the beginning.
