Unlike her sisters, Medusa had been beautiful in her youth, and was still proud of her hair. She boasted of her beauty to Athena, who became jealous and changed her into a hideous person.
Perseus killed Medusa by looking into his mirrorlike shield as he cut off her head . At that time, Medusa had been made pregnant by the sea god Poseidon. The winged horse Pegasus sprang from her beheaded body, and poisonous snakes arose from the blood that dripped from her head. Athena saved blood from Medusa's body and gave it to Asclepius, the god of healing . The blood from Medusa's left side was a fatal poison, but that from her right side had the power to revive the dead.

g_aileen09 (750) | 3 years ago | Thank you my friend. Anyone who has no deeper grasp on the myth would think that the mortal gorgon had been very ugly all throughout.
Actually, I have a close friend who use the screen name Medusa in every forum that she joins, and I am quite fascinated by how she carries herself in every topic that is placed upon her.
The two sides of Medusa should be seen inorder to understand her. And I prefer to always look at her good side.:)

In fact, “Operation Medusa” was actually the title of a book and a 1995 television movie. Here’s the editorial blurb on the book from Amazon: “Only one team can explain the unexplainable... Their job is investigating supernatural phenomena. Their jurisdiction is the world – and beyond. When locals begin venturing into a newly-discovered cavern in Arizona’s Snake Mountain, old legends become terrifyingly real – and the life-like statues within the cave are only the beginning.” Um, okay. And here’s the blurb from the movie: “After the suicide of a friend, a girl infiltrates a Scientology-like psycho-group to expose it.” Well, I perhaps we can safely rule those out as being the inspiration here. (At least I would hope so...)
No, for that, I suspect we’ll have to turn to classical mythology, which offers much in the way of demonization given that Medusa was a monstrous gorgon with brass hands, sharp fangs and hair of living, venomous snakes whose glance would turn all living creatures to stone. Hmmm. Well maybe not after all. Perhaps what the military planners actually had in mind was the Lernaean hydra – the chthonic serpent-like creature that possessed numerous heads, emitted poisonous fumes and had frustratingly confounding powers of regeneration? Or maybe it could be none of the above, in which case, it begs the question: What on earth are these people thinking?

g_aileen09 (750) | 3 years ago | LOL!!! maybe, i need to read the book hoping to at least get an idea on why they used Operation Medusa. Until then, my friend. thanks for responding:)

g_aileen09 (750) | 3 years ago | I would rather take that as a compliment for Ms. Rice. The wisdom and power of medusa raging within her, made her one of the most powerful people on earth in her time:)
