I live in Scotland and thank God we do not get them , it must be really horrible to live through, I honestly did not know they gave tornadoes names I thought it was just hurricanes they named , And it is usually alternate men's and women's name isn't it . I would hate to live through the destruction they cause , my heart goes out to the people who have to , xx

*I* name them. Oh crap... I wasn't supposed to let anyone know that. Please don't tell anyone.

Yep, that's right! I also have the ability to PhotoShop them, so if you don't behave, I can do some major blackmail with them.

Hurricanes names are chosen from a list selected by the World Meteorological Organization.
The Atlantic is assigned six lists of names, with one list used each year. Every sixth year, the first list begins again. Each name on the list starts with a different letter, for example, the name of the very first hurricane of the season starts with the letter A, the next starts with the letter B, and so on. The letters "Q", "U", "X", "Y" and "Z", however, are not used.
Often when an unusually destructive hurricane hits, that hurricane's name is retired and never used again. Since 1954, forty names have been retired. In 1996 Hurricane Luis was retired. Is your name among the currently used or retired hurricane names?
As to tornadoes I have not heard that they are ever named. That is what I think you were talking about.
