Hartz 3 in 1 Cat Spray |
| |
| Has anyone ever used this on their cat or kitten? I just did a search on a couple of search engines and found two sites that say not use this on my cats. They say that it can lead to poisoning your cat. Even some of these people were dog owners, who had dogs that died from using Hartz flea spray and other stuff. If someone has used this, please tell me what happened to your pet. If not, then tell me if you would use this on your dog or cat. Also, which type of flea prevention would you use on your cat or dog? Any suggestions would be appreciated. | | | | | |

| | We have indoor cats, but it was suggested to us to use a medicine like Advantage on the cats when we first got them to eliminate any fleas they could have picked up. They have OTC versions of the medicine that are much cheaper. I believe we found some at Petsmart that had 6 treatments for around $10. The reasons those animals probably got sick was because you put the spray all over the animal and the animal probably ingested too much of the medicine. With cats, I wouldn't put any kind of spray of powered on them because you know they will lick it off. | | | | | | |

| | Do you know the name of the OTC version for Advantage? This would help me out a lot. | | | |

| | I would never use anything made by Hartz. They have used nasty tactics to eliminate competion in the grocery stores. Notice that more times than not, Hartz is the only company displaying. There products are questionable. I use a product whereby one drop is placed on the back of the neck, where the animal can not lick it off. Also I used a product in the home that prevents the flea from metamorphisizing. It is not a poison. It is a growth inhibitor for insects. I sprayed the house once and havent had a flea problem in 13 years. I ghave 9 dogs and live in the country. It ius supposed to last 6 months. What can I say. | | | | | | |

| | I think we use Frontline, it's a small thingy that you put in their fur and it prevents fleas. My veterinary highly reccommends and we never had any problem aside from the smell that cats seem to not tolerate that much when it's syill wet on their fur :\ | | | | | | |

| | I would use this product or Advantage if I could afford it, but we have 10 full-sized cats, 2 kittens over 8 weeks, and 1 kitten that is about 4 weeks old and it would be just way too much money to purchase these products. So, if there is a cheaper or OTC version of Frontline, which do you think would work best? | | | |

| | Yes, it can kill your cat. Infact, don't use any Hartz products on your cats or dogs!! Get the flea drops from a good pet store or your vet, that'll stop the fleas and probably won't hurt them (very few have reactions.) Hartz should be put of of business for killing pets!!! | | | | | | |

| | Years ago when I somehow mangaged to have an overabundance of fleas in my house, I bought and used Hartz products only to find they didn't work at all. I called the company and demanded my money back. Spent over $100 on hartz products to get rid of the fleas and it didn't faze them a bit. I ended up getting flea/tick drops from my vet and bombed using a different brand. Fleas were gone in under a month. No more hartz for me. They need to pull their products off the shelves cause they just don't work. Never heard of hartz products killing any animals thou so don't know about that. Just know the crap don't work. | | | | | | |

| | Thank you for your response to my question. I decided that I just won't use these products at all in my home. I don't want my cats getting sick, and, plus, I have a baby. Who knows what it could do to her? I am glad that I posted this question because now I am seeing that these products aren't even worth a dime. | | | |

| | We've used Hartz on our cat and dog before and they are still very healthy. I think that we use Frontline now, but we used Hartz on and off with them for nearly 2 years. I wasn't aware at the time what I now know to be the dangers of that product. But like I said, my animals are fine. | | | | | | |

| | I have not used it and it might be true in this fact cause that is a poison any how and as per my knowledge the spray should not be frequently used in order to keep the flea out from dog so if it is done also it need to be washed within a hour after taking care that it doesnot put its mouth on their skin. | | | | | | |

| | I've heard really bad reviews on Hartz products and never used it on my pet. For flea protection, use Frontline Plus. It's the best. It's expensive but worth every penny. I order mine online. It's cheaper than getting it from the vet. | | | | | | |

| | You are like the third person on here that has said that they use Frontline Plus. I would use this if I didn't have so many cats. We have 10 full grown cats and 2 kittens over 8 weeks old, so I have to use something else. However, we did wash them all, except 3 of them, in Sergeant's Flea shampoo, and the fleas all just fell off dead. So, we might end up getting them the Sergeant's brand since it worked on them so well. | | | |

| | I did this before, and I had found some stuff that was alternatives. However, there was not too much information out there about them. So, I went with another product. The Sargent's flea shampoo seemed to work really well, but I have used other flea drops, which weren't Sargent's. They were called some other name like Adam's or something like that. I also got one of my cats a flea collar because I knew that he wouldn't mind having one. I would also get the stuff from the vet, but I can't really afford it right now. I have several cats, and I would need to spend at least $100 just on them to get the professional products. But thank you anyways for commenting on my question. | | | |

| | You're welcome! Adams is a good flea shampoo. It's the pyrethrins in it that seems to work best on fleas. You can also use regular people shampoo like Suave or V05 on the cats weekly. Just a plain old bath helps with flea control, especially if they're indoor cats. You can also put 3 or 4 mothballs in your vaccuum sweeper. When you vaccuum it kills the fleas that are sucked up. Only problem with that is it stinks like mothballs when you run the vaccuum! | | | |

| | Thank you so much for your ideas. These will definitely work, but I don't have to do the mothballs because I only have wood and tile floors in my apartment. Also, it just isn't me with fleas. They are all over the place down here. Whenever it gets cold and then warm here, they seem to populate outside (especially). My boyfriend also told me that we can use the original Dawn dishsoap, and I had heard this from an old neighbor of mine, who had a couple of cats as well. Again, thank you for your awesome ideas! They are much appreciated. | | | |

| | Hartz products contain small amounts of formaldehide (sp?). Long term, excessive use can cause problems in pets. I don't know why they contain it, but I've heard it from different reputable sources, and I don't use any products or treats made by Hartz. | | | | | | |

| | Huh...that is really interesting. I didn't know this at all. Maybe they put it in their products to keep their products to stay fresher than other products. This is just a guess though. | | | |
