If you do smell fishy and other strong odor that can't seem to be remedied by frequent showers and perfumes, maybe its time to pay your doctor a visit. And prevent turning into another Camille who nearly lost everything to this disorder. Camille is a former model and a Phi Beta Kappa with a master's in education...and she smells like a rotten fish. Camille or Miss Fishy, as here former schoolmates call her, is suffering from a rare genetic disease called TrimethylaMinuria (TMAU). She emmits a dead fish odor that can't be remedied by frequent showers and perfumes. The smell is so strong that, according to her, it once filled an entire auditorium. What is TMAU? TMAU is a rare metabolic disorder that affects men, women and children, from newborns to seniors, all races and ethnicities in most countries around the world. The presence of trimethyl-amine (TMA) in sweat is the critical determinant, because it creates a pungent odor that emanates from the skin. The malodor has been described variously as cigarette/cigar smoky, garbagelike, feces, urine, funky, fishy and more. Although, a fishy odor is reported in 15 percent of diagnosed cases.
