Craft Doll - A graduation doll centerpiece...

Here's a centerpiece doll I made for a graduation party. The "skirt" is made from a BOOK! Just a regular ol' paperback. There are many variations to this doll --a bride doll, baby doll, a christmas tree, angel, a witch... be creative! Here's how: 1. Starting with page 1, fold each page so the top right hand corner is folded into the crease of the book, including the cover. The book shown in the pic is about 530 pages. 2. Spray paint the graduation skirt black, or use white for a bride, gold for an angel, etc. 3. Cover a styrofoam ball with muslin and secure with hot glue. Dab on blush for cheeks and glue on eyes. 4. Use hair you can get at a craft store. Arrange it and hot glue as you work. 5. The cap is about a one inch piece of heavy paper folded in a cirle and hot glued, then a square glued atop that. Use a black button for the top of the cap and hang a tassel from it. I made this tassel from embroidery thread. 6. The arms are a tube of fabric draped around the neck and pinched in the middle where the "hands" would be. The blue ribbon has wire in it and also draped around the neck. 7. The diploma can be just a piece of rolled paper that you have printed the name of the school on and the class year, wrap a small ribbon around it and hot glue. 8. You can't see the back of the doll, but there is another piece of blue ribbon tied in a bow at the waist and another piece of fairly wide black black satin ribbon cut at a diagonal to resemble "tails" on a tuxedo. The angel as golden hair and a halo you can make from pipe cleaners, gold paint and glitter glued on the book after spray painting. The bride has white spray paint, gold hair, a net veil, pearls glued to the skirt and a bouquet of flowers, with white satin arm material. Hope you enjoy this craft. I did.

I think this is so cute! It's just in time for my niece's grad party. Thanks for the idea.

Oh my gosh! I just noticed that in my photo, her glasses had fallen off. The grad doll also had little black wire-rimmed glasses which give her a more "studious" look! Hot glue them on.
