Come on all you brill people. I'm travelling to one of the local towns today so I thought I would take the opportunity to put a poster up to try and get some referrals. The plan was to do the spiel then have some pull off tags for people to take home my referral link.
I've written some copy but I'm not happy with it.
Get your creative juices going and see what you can come up with for me to entice people to sign up under me.
If I use something you create there will be a prize in the shape of hearty congratulations and much virtual backslapping and enthusiastic cries of "BRAVO!!"

I think it's worth a try - I mean, what could it hurt? If you don't get anyone, then so be it but if you do.. then it was worth it, right?
Make up a paper that has something eye catching on the upper part. Either something to do with money or with making friends and sharing ideas/opinions or a mixture of both. Don't make it too long or confusing - simple and to the point. Personally, I'd make it in color too.
Then like you said, add the little strips of paper at the bottom that people can pull off and take home. I wouldn't put the site name in the upper part - only put your referral link on the strips.
I hope you get lots of people to sign up. I love this site as it stands but the fact that we can make some change in the process makes it all the better.
I'm one of those people who thinks you have nothing to lose by putting up the flyer and I wish you all the luck in the world with it. I haven't done that yet, but I've thought about it.

They are exactly the lines I was thinking of but I wasn't sure about the colour part.
I'll print something up now. I'm also going to put something up in our post office and in the other town we shop in as well. I'll let you know how it goes...nothing ventured nothing gained..eh?
I sent an invite to everyone on my email list and asked them to forward it to everyone on their list but I have had no takers.
I find it strange that people are so anti referrals. LOL.

I understand - I sent a bulletin on my MySpace and also wrote a blog about the few places I have found online that actually do pay you to do very little but I've only had 1 taker so far. I had one friend sign up for Mylot under me but she isn't active - which is sad because I would love to have discussions with her in this forum. One other girl signed up for a couple of other sites that I belong to which helps for me and for her.
I might put something up in our town when I get a chance - like you said, nothing ventured - nothing gained.
Keep trying! There is a poster here on MyLot that shared with me that she put up flyers in her town for another referral site and she got a bunch of hits so it does work.

I don't think it'll work. People will only remember www.mylot.com when they see your poster, why would they go home and type up your entire ref-link?
