What do atheists and agnostics think about the lofty moral ideals (the "love your enemies" variety) that Gandhi and his doctrine of nonviolence advanced? I've never heard of an atheist who was also a proponent of absolute nonviolence, but I don't discount it as a possibility.

I believe the atheist and agnostic views on religion really have nothing to do with the topic of nonviolence. Theists and atheists alike are on both sides of that issue. I am an atheist and agnostic, and have a huge amount of respect for both Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. They are two of my favorite historical role models in many ways.
