I have a cute little morgan mare that has some lippit blood.I know some morgan breeders that think lippit is bad. There are morgan horse owners fighting about the registry.Apparently some non-morgan horses have been allowed to enter the registry years ago and some would like to throw them out.I'm not sure exactly how this all works. They all look like beautiful horses.
I think I do agree that in order to maintain the breed it should be kept pure, but what to do with all these other horses?
It is hard to look at different morgans are believe they are the same breed.
The show morgans look alot like the american saddlebred whereas the old time bred morgans look more drafty.
I've seen morgans that I would have sworn was a hackney!
This breed is not really very old starting in the late 1700's .
I would like to hear thoughts on the breed.
I realize this is a hot volitile subject amoung some but please try to be nice.

There are so many beautiful horses. In fact all are beautiful in there own way. I believe that horses with other bloodlines should not be registered, but that is up to the integrity of the owner. Maybe if the Morgan Association had a half registry all these years, there would be less cheating.

I love Lippitt blood lines. Each of us chooses their horse by how they look to them and the personality and confirmation. we are all different, why shouldn't our horses be. Guess the morgan bloodlines offers quite a selection in style to date. Again, we have a choice to select the blood lines we like.

I myself like cross breds. It think there is style and vigor to out crossing. I think the Sport Horse registry gives us the possibility to register these horses by style with out judging who should or shouldn't be included by bloodlines.

Shell,You've made some very good points there.I also like the crosses and maybe the registries have a place because I still feel it's a good thing to keep some pure to preserve the breed.
I think when it comes to the morgan horse breed ...what's done is done and this is what the morgan horse breed now is..I think there should be catagories in the breed but still under the main morgan registry..Like half bred morgans...lippitts...brunk..etc.
I feel there is a place for all horses with morgan blood in the same registry...Maybe someday when dna is worked with more extensively in the registries there will be a way to classify them as 100%...86% morgan . It would not demean the horse but when breeding to another horse you would know what percentages you'd get.If you have a horse that is 60% morgan and breed to a 90% morgan you'd be getting closer to full morgan and if all breeds did this you could really map out to try for a certain thing with your offspring..
