Even though they are made a little better than before, a friend of mine insists that they still have to be "broken in" before doing any long-range traveling. He says the brakes, tires, transmission and radiator have to be driven at least a hundred miles first in normal everyday driving. What do you think?

I agree with your friend. It isn't like the old days, when we really had to break them in for x amount of miles. But, the new ones today need a little of it. Each dealer will tell you something else for that car.

I have never heard of this and would be more comfortable taking a new car on a long drive then something that is old . As all our vechiles are old they tend to break down much easier . And lets face it you would be breaking it in on the long drive anyway .
