2.  chuckt9881 (356) | 3 years ago |  I couldn't stand this movie. The character was well thought out and the story moved along nicely. But Russell Crowe was horrible in the role! He ruined the movie for me. And to top it off, it was nominated for best picture at the Oscars that year. I could not believe that!
So, I give the character 100% and Crowe 0%. If I had been the casting director, I would have chosen Sean Bean, Vinnie Jones or Clive Owen.

Sengrath (176) | 3 years ago |  I totaly Agree with SUALEH russel crow played Soooo great . i would even give 90% russel and 10% character beacose the character in its essence was not too difficult to act(apart from some phisical abilities). The character is a simple one ..not complex, maximus has no hidden emotions, he's a straight to the point man, fair. And Crowe gives Maximus the Charm and charisma that it terribly needed
