Does A Semi-Rigid Daily Schedule And Routine Help Depression

I have suffered off and on with bouts of depression-mostly secondary to chronic illness. I've found that having a daily schedule and routine are very helpful. By semi-rigid, I mean not allowing too many things or people to "throw you off" of your schedule and routine. Has anyone else tried this technique? Did you find it helpful? Do you have any tips to share regarding schedule and routine?

Oh my YES!!!! I have a calendar(weekly) and every day I write down in short form things I want to get done during the day and along side any phone calls I need to make. Not only does this help keep one focused, as yo finish something, even as simple as cleaning bathrooms, and you cross it off, theres a sense of accomplisshment.. I have also found that I prioritize and sometimes something gets bumped to the next day!!! Letme know if this works for you!!

I agree, it does help quite a bit. Sometimes it's very easy to get sidetracked or feel "muddled".

I know when you are down and depressed it's difficult to get out of it. If you can keep your mind focused on something interesting or on something that you enjoy for a few hours at a time then I have found this useful. I found playing poker helped me but I would n't necessarily want to recommend it. The other thing that I always find beneficial is changing your environment. Travel somewhere different for example - this has its limitations of course.

Sometimes a change of scenery does help.

In a sense, I really think it might. If nothing else, it gives you something to keep a constant focus on. Perhaps a simple change every now and then, really to make sure that nothing gets too bogged down with repetition. Because a lot of depressed people that I have encountered, tend to get bouts of depression when they are a bit bored. Then again depression does work in many differing forms, so what works for one person, may be a huge mistake for another. Then again, one does not know until they try something out how well it will work.
