Hi! This discussion was actually the suggestion of another user, that it would be nice to get away from all the controversial topics and discuss people who have been instrumental in creating the world we live in today. For example, did you know that Thomas Edison acquired 1,093 patents? Or that he was instrumental in the creation of talking pictures and the telephone? Here's the link: http://www.thomasedison.com/biog.htm Does anyone else have any interesting facts to share?

Thomas Edison is a terrific answer but I would like to add to that because Jesus was a tremendous influence whether or not anyone is a believer in Christianity or not. Also, Ghandi influenced many as well as Mother Theresa. Albert Einstein had a great influence as well. There's just so many so I'm pretty sure you'll get lots of responses.

Hi! Yes, I was just using Thomas Edison as an example to get the ball rolling, so to speak. Bring them on! :-) I think you've made some excellent contributions as well. Thanks for the response! :-)

Edison is great and I happen to live in Edison!! My list would not include inventors but rather other people ... Jesus would be tops on my list. Believe or not, he still influenced a great deal of people and still does. Mother Teresa for her tireless work and her influence on so many people. There are so many people that influence the world positively without inventing a thing. I would be here for a long time writing if I sat here thinking. Above all I think some of the besr people to influence the world are parents who take the time to teach their kids to be good people. (the other day my daughter told us that she forgot to thank someone for a bottle of water and she felt bad about it.... that is the kind of positive stuff we need in this world) (sorry for going slightly off topic)

Hi! I think you are completely right to mention parents. Parents make or break the next generation by teaching the right things or neglecting and abusing their children. Parenting is a serious thing, and I don't think enough of us realize that what we do creates a little person - or little people - who will be making the decisions someday for other little people and the rest of the world. :-)
