Have you ever been put in a situation between a Parent and your Love one?

For gals between your father and your boyfriend. For guys between your Mom and your girlfriend. I have watch "Monster in Law" with Mom and my GF. They are laughing as if they can relate to the story.(I believe they are). But in situation like this, how would you handle the situation? There is this joke that somehow i get offended. I ask my girlfriend if say....we are on a boat trip and and the boat sink...who would she save me or my mom....she told me that she will save my mom....I ask her why? She simply "after the incident, she will not be my mother in law anymore". I know something is going on between them but quite civil infroint of me...I guess mom is jealous, and my girlfriend is sick of my mom's mouth. Gees, 2 woman i love.... Fact, It is we who chooses our girlfriend but it is not we who chooses our parents. Maybe because God want us to do something for that family. But God gave is the freedom to choose and we have chosen who will be our partner...yet in a situation like this???? this is kinda tough? a hard one. What would you do if you were in my place?
