Have You Ever Left to Work for the Summer?

I am very excited because I'll be working on Mackinac Island beginning at the end of April through the end of October. This is the first time I've ever left for the summer to work. I'm interested in hearing about other peoples experiences. I will be working at a hotel, and living in a dorm-style apartment a few blocks away. I'm interested in hearing other peoples experiences with summer jobs so I know what I'm in for.
