Can you imagine if A-rod came to Chicago? Game over. Just give us the title now please. A-rod loves Piniella, has expressed interest in playing in both Chicago and Wrigley, and he desperately wants his old job back. Let's see...Izturis or A-rod? If A-rod comes here, it won't matter who is playing second base, the Cubs would have the best infield in all of baseball. Don't rule it out people, listen to the radio, rumors are swirling.

Are you serious? I have not heard this at all. Maybe I will have to start listening to WGN radio. I have been watching the spring games, but have not heard this at all.
Just thinking about this makes me almost cry from too much joy.
They would have to give up someone very, very good. Yankees need pitching. I think the Cubbies can spare Sean Marshall and maybe Guzman. Not sure what other pitcher, though.
Gonna go check a few websites (Cubs and Yankees) to see if I can get more info.
Thanks for giving a lil' excitement to this Diehard...and dreams too.

First of all, of course it's wishful thinking. Is there any other player out there you'd rather have come to the Cubs? Second of all, other than the few times I've heard this talked about on WGN and ESPN radio, no, there will be no official press releases, nor will there be any mention of it on either team website. Neither of these teams would like to address a distraction such as this one, regarding the possibilities of next season, when this season has yet to begin.
But, you have to read between the lines. The Chicago Tribune has been writing very small exerpts for about the last month regarding A-rod's unhappiness in N.Y. Chicago needs a SS considering Izturis couldn't hit the backside of a barn. N.Y. needs pitching and the Cubs have some of the best looking young pitchers in the league. This rumor has been brought up in the past, and now that the Cubs are in fact committed to putting a winner on the field, it's been brought up on and off here and again. Don't dismiss the possibilities, it could happen.
You know whom else is entering free agency next year...? Ichiro! He hasn't expressed any desire to leave or stay in Seattle just yet, but I'm guessing he wants out because they don't look to be a contender anytime soon. Can you imagine his bat at the top of the Cubs order, and his arm in right? We'd have to unload Jones, but, that's a price I'd be willing to pay for a true lead-off hitter.

Alrighty. I have looked on the Cubs and Yankees websites. I have checked baseball rumors. I do not see anything that talks about this happening? Is there some secret trade society I don't know about that you are getting this information, or wishful talking by some Cubs reporters?

That'd be awesome! What's the word on that, anyway? I've not been around much lately, and so am severely out of the loop unfortunately. I'd love to see the Cubs do it this year. I was talking with my mom about how we remember the first night game for Wrigley, and how it rained so badly. We laughed when we talked about how the Cubs went out onto the tarp that was covering the field, and slid across it in their uniforms, and how they got in so much trouble but how everyone loved it. We really miss Grace on the team, but if they can do it without him, then more power to them! Go Cubbies!

See posts above, including the link to the most recent article. It also gets talked about on and off here on Chicago radio stations.
Yeah, Grace was probably the best contact hitter in the 90's. And what management did to him, and later Steve Stone was pretty dirty. He made his first appearance in like ten years at this year's Cubs convention, and from what I understand Jim Hendry (GM for the Cubs) is trying to mend the relationship. I could be wrong, but I think they convinced Grace to commentate a couple of Cubs games this year either on the radio or one of the tv stations.

I bet you were. Yeah, that would have been pretty special. I always was a Luis fan too. That's another guy we let go too early.

Grace was one of my favorites of all time on the Cubs. I was living in New York when the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees in the World Series. I think I was the only one in town rooting for them. How great was that, to see Grace and Luis Gonzalez be a part of that!! If only they could have gotten it done as Cubs.

That would be an interesting trade, but who would the Yankees get back? They would need a 3B, and would probably demand a young pitcher like Rich Hill. Would the Cubs part with him, or even Sean Marshall.
Piniella has said the job is going to be tougher than he originally thought. But getting A-Rod would sure help him out a lot.

Personally, I'd trade Marshall, Hill, and Pie for A-rod. I don't know if you've been following spring training, but the Cubs have quite a few very promising players on the farm (Guzman, Pie, Eric Patterson, and catchers Hill and Fox). They have plenty of trade bait, the question is would the Cubs be willing to pay the man what he's worth?

Yeah, it's been brought up on and off on ESPN radio.
A-rod wants out of N.Y., especially if they don't win it this year. He continually talks about how much he loves Piniella, and how much he'd love to play in Wrigley. My mouth waters just thinking about it.
