I wasn't an extra in a movie, but my cousin's hubby was. He was in "Home Alone" and "Hoffa". He got paid $50 a day and free lunch. He was in the airport scene in Home Alone, but alas, he got cut out. He said Katherine O'Hara was not a nice person. In "Hoffa", he was in a scene when Hoffa was making a speech outdoors. That one didn't get cut. If you watch the movie, he is the very Italian looking guy..LOL. He said Jack Nicholson and Danny Devito were very cool. When they broke for lunch, both of them sat with the extras and ate lunch. He was quite impressed with them.

I worked as an extra for 2 years in my 20's. It was fun mostly, but there were days when the cast and crew of the movies and tv shows were just mean. The pay was not much for non union, union pays much, much better. If you work every day you could make a living being an extra, but the days are long and there is alot of down time, but on the other hand you get to meet people ( some of them famous) and make friend.
