I think children do need support from an adult when they are young.
They need to be able to talk when they need to and not have to make an appointment but it needn't be the mother who is the mentor and so life can be adapted.
In the UK a lot of mothers work and leave their children with a grandparent or pay a childminder or nursery to care for the children while they are not at home themselves.
I think it is a difficult thing to balance.
In the UK there is also high teenage pregnancy and delinquency so maybe you are right, I didn't work when my kids came along, I gave it up to be the support at home but not everyone is lucky enough to get that choice.

I would not deny the fact that this is one probable cause but this is not everything. I guess, it really depends on you as a parent, as a mother on what your priority is. Some people have been very excellent in managing both but if you think that you are the type who can't handle both pressures, then its about time to stop and rethink what your priority really is.
