I think the lack of good teachers these days is mainly due to the low salaries that they make. It is a lot of work and stress trying to teach and get kids to want to learn new things. We certainly should be getting paid more than we do for all the hard work we put in and for having patience with both the good and bad students. In order to be a good teacher, you need to have patience and be able to work with people with all sorts of personalities as well as knowing what you are talking about and being a helpful person.

You are right. There is a scarcity of good teachers everywhere. I can't speak for the rest of the world, but I think that it isn't salary that attracts a good teacher; it is the love of helping others to learn. Could it be that teaching has become more of a baby sitting and a struggle for power position than one of actually teaching? Many children today are not taught respect at home and so they show none to their teachers or to the classmates at school. Teachers are not allowed to correct behavior in many schools, and they spend a large portion of their valuable instruction time trying to review material that habitual truants have missed. If the test scores of a given classroom fall below the norm, the teacher is blamed. Teaching, instead of being an exciting time of sharing knowledge has, in many cases, become 6 or more hours daily of enduring unruly students. I taught school, back in the days when it was fun and exciting. I'm glad I retired when I did, because I don't think I could take a single day of the way most kids behave now.

Sorry but I don't agree with you that there is a lack of good teachers. I am a teacher and consider myself to be a good teacher, and I would say the same of most of my colleagues that I have met. Obviously in any job you go into you expect a reasonable salary, but in this job, most of us decided to go into it as we wanted to help others, to see people grow and learn. The greatest problem that we face is the lack of respect. There are certain conditions that need to be in operation to teach effectively. These include a willingness to learn and actually bothering to listen. Too many students just see school as a place to socialise, if they don't want to work they won't. Even in class all they want to do is talk. It doesn't matter how interesting (or in some cases not the lesson is) Often if you are strict enough to get them not to talk then they resent you which makes them even harder to work with. Another problem is that some parents have no respect either, and the students catch onto this pretty quickly. For example I had a student who tried to read magazines in my class, so I told her to put it away, then as soon as my back was turned she had it out again, so I confiscated it, then she got out her mobile phone and was trying to text her friends so I had to get her to put that away as well. When she got home she told her parents I had been picking on her and they rang up and complained without even bothering to find out what had actually happened. Not every lesson can be fascinating or even enjoyable, although we try, but there are so many who don't even start to put in an effort, which is then all the teachers fault of course.

I too agree with you! Due to the private and corporate sectors entering in the education fields the life of teacher became miserable. These sector will try to give the output in respect of marks and certificate so they wont bother the quality of education hence they recruit less qualified teachers for the job, where as the well qualified cannot be waiting with starving then he has to step down to do the job for less salary. In my view, the Government which gives Registration and Recognisition for the private schools they should make the salary and perks at the par in correlative and comparitive salary with the Doctors. Since i feel doctor and teacher are equally important. Main problem is Growth in Life in aspect of Finance is poor in teaching so people dont choose it as a lifelong profession. For example, i am a teacher for 10 years but now i am an Employee in a Aviation Company the movement is due to the salary. But being a teacher i am proud with the efforts i put and output i get from the students daily.
