I think that would all depend on the type of connection that you have. I have cable, and I have never lost my connection. I know many people that have dial-up, and they lose there connection all the time. I'm not sure that there is anything that can be done about it.

If the problem is the internet connection itself, you can complain to your ISP but if they cannot do anything about it, better try another ISP; If downloading files is mostly the concern, you can use DL Managers to be able to finish your dls even if the connection is intermittent

From my experience, I think it has something to do with spyware or browser corruption. Or if you are using a pirated Windows Operation system especially XP, then turn off the automatic updates from system properties because if microsoft detected a pirated software, without hesitation will damage your OS. I once blamed my ISP for a terrible intermittent connection. but when the technician brought his laptop and connected the modem to it, I was embarrassed to find out that it has something to do with my PC because the connection was very fast on his laptop! There may be a number of causes why you kept on losing your internet connection. Just try a number of things to sort out the problem.
