I am growing bell pepper plants from seed, but their root systems seem very weak and the stems are spindly. Any advice?

Hi All,
Do you have a loose growing medium? For seeds I usually mix some compost with peat moss and throw in a couple of handfuls of sand.
Oxygen must penetrate the soil. The leaves need Carbon dioxide. The roots need Oxygen.
I never recommend the regular potting soil because it is usually too dense.
Can you provide some information about what you are doing? Its like going to the doctor & telling him you don't feel good without telling him you smoke 10 packs of cigarettes a day, drink 17 pots of coffee, never eat & avoid the sun like a plague.
What kind of light? Where are you growing them? Such as cold basement floor. How about fertilizer? Also... dilute chemical fertilizers before you feed your plants. Fertilizer half strength every week is BETTER than full strength once every 2 weeks. Also provide any other pertinent information.

Where are you growing them? When the plants first show they need full light and warm conditions. If the stems are spindly it could be they are ina room and not out in a glass house or open garden, terrace or balcony. They need light from all sides or they will grow and stretch towards the light. You also need good potting soil or rich garden soil. I have beautiful peppers each year in my garden and small ones on my balcony.
