Do u have festivities in your country or city that u can share?  | |  I live in Cebu City Philippines and every year, specifically every January, we celebrate the sinulog festival. This is to honor Sr. Sto. Niño, the baby Jesus, for protecting Cebu from calamities and tragedies, for good health and in the old days with what we call a bountiful harvest. The origin of which was introduced at the time of Spaniards in the 16th century. There is a nine day novena and there are three major highlights of the event: the fluvial parade and the reenactment ceremony of the baptism of the first Christians, the procession which is attended by almost a million people, and the sinulog parade for one day participated by foreign and local contingents with colorful costumes and maskaras dancing within a route. There are also higantes(giants)scaring or amazing children and floats participating with the countries popular actors and actresses in it. Street party follows at night where bands perform at everywhere. It is a very fun and lively. Can u imaging how fun it is? The celebration shows how Cebuanos pay tribute to God and how Cebu party as a community.

| | | 2. deirdrex08 (45) | 1 year ago |  i think there is no grander festival in the philippines than the sinulog festival of cebu city! here in zamboanga city we also have a festival and we call it Fiesta Pilar! It's celebrated every 12th of October. Speaking of which, it's almost Octoboer now! We have street dancing participated by the different schools, we have song writing contests, chabacano language is used! then the vinta race! yes, you read it right, we have a vinta race, those colorful sails of bangkas are a sight to see!:) come visit zamboanga!:)

It is almost December already and after Christmas and New Year, it is sinulog time.

We have many festivals which are celebrated in public or publicly and almost every one irrespective of castw, creedc, religion [participate in them! Like Diwali, Holi, Ganesh Puja, Durga Puja etc are basically Hindu festivals celebrated in public where practically every one participate! During these fdestivals we do hold cultural activities where we invite various artists to take part and surprisingly artist from other religions they willingly and readily participate in these celebrations!
In our country there are hardly any festivals which are restricted to a single family or it is a simply a family affair!
Generally neighbourers and the people around are invariably invited to attend any function or festival! And depending upon the type of festival the celebrations range from simple ceremonial worsjhip to big grand celebrations invilving some thousands or eve to the tune of millions of rupees spending for the festival so that people may enjoy It!
