how can i make (consrtuct) a VHS video (i mean the appliance not the tape) ?

i am interested in finding instructions/sites/books
with information about making a portable vcr (vhs type)
yes i like retro things.
do you condider it a hard task and will the materials be expesive ?
i think it will be an excellent retro project.
