Do you think police officers should have to be in shape? |
|
I think they should. If they have to perform a physical test yearly it is a crock. There is no physical fitness test as far as I'm concerned. No overweight cop is gonna catch me on foot. This reason only I think they should have to pass a yearly physical test. It should include running a mile or two. If the only way they could prove I did something is by catching me before I ran away, odds are that I would out run them. I wouldn't try to climb a fence unless I could jump it. That is a good way to allow them to gain ground & all they have to do is jump to catch you. I know more ways to get away but will keep them to myself because I am not a criminal nor do I promote criminal activities. If there are any police officers out there who are offended because they can run 2 miles.... why don't you get the out of shape officers to go jog with you? Maybe even start a fitness club where you jog & not lift weights. You would make the world a little safer.

1. slarkin71 (4526) | 2 years ago | I think all police should be in good shape. There's no point in them chasing someone if they're overweight and have no chance in catching them.

2. mihimolly (4890) | 2 years ago | In the UK they have Gyms they can go to for free as part of the perks. There is really no excuse for being a blobby policeman. My husband is a volunteer policeman,he jogs most days of the week and does Karate at weekends. Some of the police where we live are very out of shape so I can see what you mean. Its hard to respect someone who lets themselves go and then relies on their uniform to govern respect and not the person wearing it.

coolseeds (2368) | 2 years ago | Your husband does it the right way. Jogging & jujitsu are all they need. It is what would allow me to escape the police if I had to get away. I will not allow the police to put handcuffs on me either. I don't care what the law is. They are abusive & liars. They will tell you someone said something & they just need you to confirm. I found this out 1 time when pulled over with some friends. The cop said where is the crack. I just need you to confirm what they said. Needless to say I went off & said no wonder why people call you pigs & a lot of other curse words. & he submitted to me because he was wrong. I don't smoke crack & no one in the car smoked crack. We didn't have crack & were not looking for crack. How am I supposed to respect someone who calls me a crack head? Stupid pigs.

mihimolly (4890) | 2 years ago | well I agree some of them need to be a bit more respectful. It is completely unprofessional to accuse a person without very good reason. We have had a few words with our local police, not swearing though. Just calmly pointing out that we are not in the wrong. I am a mum with teenagers and think myself quite a law abiding person and it just gets me angry when i am spoken to rudely by a person just because they are wearing a uniform. If you are in the right and a law abiding person, then stand up for yourself but it really isn't worth wasting your breath to swear at them and give them the excuse they are looking for to cause you problems.

3. desertdarlene (5652) | 2 years ago | I think all officers should be in shape. In my town, a good deal of them are pretty fit. But, I have seen some that are so obese they can't even get out their cars. And, those are the nastiest ones, too.

coolseeds (2368) | 2 years ago | If I were a cop I would do what ever I could to avoid doughnuts. I wouldn't even drive by a doughnut shop. LOL My favorite food.

4. enchantedleppard (1341) | 2 years ago | I agree with you. With all of the overweight officers out there it certainly makes me wonder how many criminals get away without doing any time because they can easily outrun an out of shape police officer. I think there should be restrictions on fitness for all officers- but perhaps firemen and paramedics too. I dont want to be trapped in a hard to get to place and end up dying because the paramedic that first responds to the scene cannot climb or move quickly. Your discussion definitely made me think!

coolseeds (2368) | 2 years ago | Good idea. Paramedics & firemen too. You can't discriminate but come one you can't feel confident in your safety either.

6. slickcut (5101) | 2 years ago | I think cops should be made to stay in shape. What can a fat cop do if he cannot run or catch anyone? I think they should stay out of the donut shops...I do know that cops have places to eat and they eat there all the time because they eat free...I used to live by a cop and he was a smart aleck...he was always bragging about something...He had a stomach on him,it would have been hard for him to catch someone .....

coolseeds (2368) | 2 years ago | They let the gun and badge go to their head. If your body isn't in shape your mind isn't in shape & that is where people like him get someone hurt. Now if people feel this way... how do they get away with it?
