Ever HAD an ACQUAINTANCE ask you for MONEY via EMAIL??

Some three years ago I was working with a fitness trainer for about a year (results were amazing), but I have since moved from the state and not heard from him (or ever thought I would, I mean he was just a fitness trainer that helped me work out harder). Yesterday, I received an email from him requesting money to help him since he had ended up in the Phillipines and needed to get back to America claiming he only needed $1,000 to do it and if I could Western Union or Paypal him the funds. Now what would you do? I mean I have not heard from the guy in over 2 years and now he is writing to me asking me for money, it is not like we are friends or anything, but yet I feel bad and can't get his message out of my head. Would you help a friend with monetary assistance if asked?

No I would, you haven't heard from him in 2 yrs. how could he ask you for that large amount of money, if you all are not good friends why would you do it? I wouldn't do it he sounds like a user. I woldn't feel bad either.

I know, just I always use the "what I would want people to do if I was in the same situation" attitude and it gets me everytime, thanks for responding Marcia

I certainly would not send money. If you haven't heard from this person in 2 years you have no way of knowing if this person claiming to be your fitness trainer is actually who he claims to be. There are so many cases of identity theft and scams for money there is no way on earth I would send this "person" money. Beware, be very careful of this situation and request.

Thanks byfaithonly, I just have a big heart and can be naive sometimes, always nice to have friends to tell you to beware.

I've known a few people who got caught in these types of things. It is sad because I too am a softy - it's been said I trust to easy and give to willingly. I have curbed both somewhat and it is easier to tell others "don't do it" than it is to not do it myself.

Yeah I am a softy too, and definitely too trusting, I just always like to believe that everyone is honest, too bad in this day and age they are not.

No, not under those circumstances. He is an adult, he made the choices that took him where he is, and I think he has a lot of nerve asking you for money. How many of his other clients do you suppose he has hit up for this same supposed need? I mean, how can you be sure this is not a scam of some kind?
