Does anyone still collect old basketball, hockey, football or baseball cards? email this discussion to a friend?

Hello and Good Morning. I recently inherited about 15 cases of old collectible Fleer, Score and Upper Deck sports cards from my older brother while on a visit to Connecticut to see my mother. I was wondering where I could find out what they are worth. The cards are still in the original packaging and shrink wrapped and dated 1990 and 1991. Each case has anywhere from 10 to 24 individual boxes and each box has approx. 36 packs in each. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Have a good day!

1990 and 1991 you won't get too much for them except set collectors for those years, you might be able to get a couple hundred per case but that only works out to $20 or so per box, 1990 and 91 they mass produced these cards and even good rookies then are not worth that much, you wouldn't happen to have 91-92 Upperdeck hockey or 90-91 Score hockey would ya?

Thanks for responding to my question. I have 92-93 Upperdeck Hockey: 15 cards per pack, 36 packs per box. Writing on box says Limited Edition-Holographically Enhanced,"Euro-Rookie Team Halograms" Look for Wayne Gretzky"Hockey Heroes and other special insert cards.Box is black and gray w/ a picture of Wayne Gretzky on the top & bottom. Also have Score 91 hockey player cards-purple box)20 boxes per case. I guess I'll do a search and check out ebay as well. Have a good one.

Ah yes, I collected cards in the 90s when everybody else was and they were over produced. lol! Supposedly a 1952 Mickey Mantle card is worth between $12-20,000! A couple of baseball card price guides are named 'Beckett' and 'Tuffstuff' that might help. Also ebay may have some going prices for cards.

Math: 15cases x (10 to 24)boxes x 36 packs= 5400-129000 so even if only .01 each card that's $54 - $1290 which is not bad at all but please double check my math. lol!

Thanks for responding. Yes, I know of Beckett but Tuffstuff is new to me. Thanks for that info. I will check ebay to see what I can find out. Yes your math is correct, lol..smiling..I know the cards that are sold today, even at walmart are $1-$4 a pack for only (5-9) cards. Everything seems to keep rising in cost except for our paychecks...lol I might even take them to the flea market here in Raleigh, NC. I hear its a huge and a good place to sell almost anything. I just signed up for Mylot a couple days ago. It's a pretty interesting site. Thanks again for your time and have a great day!

I am one of those people who still collect baseball cards. I started when I was about 11 or 12. I don't do much with them, but I do know that if I don't mess with them for about another 20 or 30 years I can sell them for quite a bit. I have cards from the 50's and 60's, also a bunch from the 90's and 91's. Which are not worth much now, but in time it will pay off to wait. I believe it's a good investment if your willing to wait.

I myself do not collect the baseball cards anymore, I used to have a huge collection, but got tired of storing it and finally sold it a couple of years ago, and now I am really kicking myself for it.;0)

Tuffstuff is a good place to look for value of cards, as someone mentioned earlier. I tried to find a link for online, but didn't have any luck as I would like to find out how much my nascar cards are worth.;0) Oh well.

Ebay can be really deceiving if you are trying to price value on any kind of collectible cards. I just want to warn you on that. The prices that people sell the cards for on there is almost obscene for how low it is, but they will get you with the shipping. lol

I would try to find a local card shop, or like you mentioned before a flea market. Yellowpages are great for looking up this stuff. Sometimes you will be amazed what is tucked away in a little town that you never even knew about.lol

I hope that you find good luck with your cards, but as another user mentioned, you could also hold on to them, as they will mature with time. A lot of people threw away the cards from the 90's as they were so mass produced, so eventually there will be a shortage of them, to my way of thinking anyway. JMO
