This time our little furry friends are getting the recall. It seems to involve mainly house brands- including Kroeger, Safeway, WalMart and PetCo. These are wet pet foods. For more info - http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nation/4637752.html

I saw this when I first logged on this morning, as my laptop always comes up to aol news. I was relieved to see that it was wet foods, all the animals at my house eat dry food, but it is often Kroger or WalMart brands. We can kill ourselves, and our pets, with food. It should be a great source of health. I think there was a connection to gluten from a certain plant, so I am also wondering how much of the human food chain has that gluten in it!

YOu think we will be getting a recall in human food fromthis as well? It does seem kind of vague.

GardenGerty, you are right to be concerned about human food being affected. Anything made with the diseased grain could be suspect. I have done research on the possible pathogens, and come up with only one: Fusarium Mycotoxin. It's a mold/fungus that grows on anything from wheat to soybeans, peanuts and corn. It is not killed in the usual heat sterilization procedures. If this affected grain has been shipped world-wide, we can expect to find cattle and people with symptoms. Let's all keep our eyes and ears open for articles cropping up on the web that report such outbreaks, at least for the next few weeks.

First, it has nothing to do with this discussion, but your dogs are so cute. As far as dogs and cats food, I am not supriesed, I don't trust pets food in 100%.

It seems like our whole food chain is pretty messed up. ANd thanks, the guys think they are cute too. We just came back from a walk and the old one insisted on playing king of the mountain. Now he is napping.

Manufacturer's Recall Information Hotline: 1-866-895-2708 This is where you can call and find out what foods and maybe find a way to turn it back in to them. That is why I have tried to cook for our animals. We can control like in our food the tasty, safer foods that are meant to be our fuel. We need to learn to take care of more of our own things. Thanks for sharing this information.

Where did you find info for cooking for your dogs. One of my guys has a grain mite allergy. So he is always on meds. Plus he has a chronic yeast infection. We are using apple cider vinegar which sees to help.

Huh I hadn't heard about that yet, but I'm sure it will affect me soon since I work at customer service at Walmart and will have tons of returns soon I'm sure.

It seriously makes you wonder how safe anything we put in our mouth is, let alone what we put in our pets! I've seen and heard so many who have lost their pets to this and they have yet to figure out the problem. I have a puppy and I really fear putting her on just human food with vitamins but I'm truly thinking this may be an option.

We had been buying the wal-mart one for some time but recently switched to a cheaper generic at another store. It is not the cuts and gravy style, thankfully. What is going on lately with everything? Is nothing safe anymore? I'm really starting to wonder. I don't know what to think with all the problems we've been having with recalls on food every time we turn around. This is insane.

I know...it does seem like it is epidemic lately.
