While I am glad that some child has a chance for a wonderful life as opposed to a life in an orphange or whatever, I still don't understand what makes the wealthy folks want to go out of our country to adopt! There are plenty of children right here that need homes. I have to wonder if it isn't publicity? Perhaps if she adopted in the states the adoption might not garner as much attention?

My husband and I were talking about this last night. I agree that it is great a child is getting a chance for a wonderful life, but I too agree with you that there are many children right here who need homes as well. I also believe that it wouldn't garner as much attention, especially since some of the attention is negative. I believe she genuinely loves these children, but many say she does it for publicity. No one will know the real reason other than herself, but she's Angelina Jolie and doesn't really need the publicity.

I think it's wonderful! There are so many needy children everywhere in the world, and for her to give another one a chance is a great thing. I know a lot of people criticize her, but I really think Jolie wants to help people.
It might seem to some like a publicity thing, but she has gone to places that are very dangerous in order to increase awareness and learn more about the situations in those countries. I've read a lot about her, and the more I read, the more I admire her.
As for why she chooses foreign children, I think in general she is interested in connecting with the whole world. It is horrible that there are children in the US who also need homes, but one can only have so many causes and still give them all proper time and energy. By adopting children from these countries, she is not only creating her own family, but also drawing attention to the parts of the world they are from, and the horrific things they face there. I do wish someone would do the same for children in our own country, but it shouldn't be Jolie, because she has enough on her plate already.

Even though adopting childs from poor countries will help the child to a better life I think that there are so many ways to attack poverty and injustice than adopting children from poor countries.
With the same money that they will spend on this single child they could probably pay for thousands of poor childrens education.
It's better to help the children in the culture where they are than to adopt them to other cultures.
