It is true that cancers do have genetic / hereditary backdround like any other disease. When family members have a certain sickness, cancer for that matter, there is an increased likelihood that other members down the line will have it....therefore you have a higher risk of getting it. But all diseases are not solely based on genetic factors. There are other risk factors to consider sucj as social, environmental, personal factor. The best thing you can do is to find you what triggered that cancer in the family....consult your relatives who do have that disease. Research on what increases the probabality of that disease and try to avoid them. Living a healthy lifestyle does not ensure that you will be disease free....having regular doctor consultation which includes a complete physical examination is best.

I believe that it can be. I'm not sure what the medical take on it is though. Please go for routine smear tests as they will pick up any abnormal cells before they have chance to develop in to cancer. If at worst you ever did develop cancer the earlier it is picked up the better your chances. Check ups are the only way. Go to your doctor and explain your concerns and they will be able to advise you better.

I think if it runs in the family that it is more prone for you to get it. Not going to get checked out is a bad idea. If you should have cancer if they catch it early something can be done about it. Too many people have the wrong concept and are afraid to get checked out because of what they are afraid of. But the fear is worse. It keeps you from going and doing what is necessary to keep yourself healthy. Get yourself checked out so that you can have ease of mind.

My dad had cancer and it could have been controled and dealt with if he had gone right away when he thought that something was wrong. He had colon cancer and it is very treatable if caught in the early stages. My mom tried to get him to go to the doctors and he refused because of what he was afraid of. My brother had lung cancer and he himself said the same thing. That if he had gotten in to see a doctor right away his cancer could have been taken care of. He was in a bad time of his life so he just let it go and kept kidding himself into saying that there was nothing wrong. He admitted to me that he was just plain scared. Fear can do more harm than getting the diagnosis and making a plan of action.

Yes dear, cancer is hereditary if your family history has cancer and we can't do anything about that. Its already apart of our genes since birth. You'll really be lucky if it didn't hit you. Well the thing you could do is just pray and take care of your health then that's it. Enjoy lifE! =) *WinK*
