Handicraft - training, Production and Marketing Promotion Programme : Handicraft is an important sector which has played a very significant role in own country's economy not only in providing employment to vast segment of craft persons in rural and urban areas but also in terms of generation substantial foreign exchagne for the country. As per the rough estimates more than 5 million craft persons are dependent on handicraft sector for the livelihood. The problems faced by the sector are many due to its un organised and dispersed nature coupled with illiteracy and poverty of craft persons. The craft persons face a number of problems like lack of infrastructual facilities, lack of working capital, inadequancy of resources, growing competitions from machine made proudcts, scarcity raw materials and low returns.
