A question for parents- how much would you spend on clothes for a new baby?

I'm trying to get a sense of some pricing for a new project I have in mind, and wondered if a few of you might be kind enough to share some impressions. I'm not trying to sell anything (will be months befoe I put this idea into action), just some market research.

One of the things I do is knit hats, and I want to develop a range of simple woollen hats in beautiful colours and soft textures aimed at newborns and very young children. I like to use 100% wool that has been ethically raised and I consider that to be a big selling point to my work.

However, I also know that new babies only fit their clothes for a short while, and so parents might be reluctant to spend money on anything other than cheap plain garments. The design of these hats will be similar to many of the sewn cotton ones that most babies wear in their first weeks, but the colours will be exciting and the wool lovely to touch.

So, if you were a new parent or were buying a gift for a newborn, and you saw some beautiful little handmade (but extremely professional, properly labelled and packaged) baby hats in soft pure wool, with a strong ethic behind their manufacture and in gorgeous colours (hand dyed, probably in random toning shades), roughly what might you be willing to consider a sensible price to pay?

Just rough ideas is more than enough, I have trouble gauging what my work is worth sometimes so I thought it would be interesting to get some different viewpoints. Thanks everyone!
