flower bulb question

I have a question about flower bulbs. I have never had flowers before in my yard that weren't from a seed packet.

We bought a new house this fall and seen what autumn flowers are in the yard. Last week or before we noticed a few mounds of bulbs (overgrown on each other). They look like horseradish root color and size (little smaller). What could they be?

My sister gave me a gazillion daffodil bulbs so I know what they look like. Not EVEN close!This is got me baffled.

I cannot wait till they bloom to see what they could be. Can anyone help?

Sounds like you have some sort of iris. We have purple and yellow ones growing around here. When they multiply the roots can start showing. You can dig them up in the fall and transplant them to thin them out. If you want to see more iris and find out a little more go to www.gurneys.com

I think you should take a picture,scan it, and send the pic to www.michiganbulb.com They will tell you what it is.

I believe it is an Iris. Some spread so the little ones are babies.

I also think what you describe as Iris tubars (spelling sorry) Good idea to thin them out, and spread them around. Give some away if you have to many. They grow, and spread. You can wait and see what they look like, and then decide to thin them out. Happy gardening!!
