The poor Boy Scout has been missing for 4 days in North Carolina. It all started when he wanted to sleep in instead of going on a hike with the others.Where was the person in charge of watching him at? They didn't even know that he was missing until lunch time when one of the other boys noticed he was not there. What is wrong with people these days?He is only 12.I wonder how many parents will not trust the Boy Scouts anymore?I know if my son was younger and in Boy Scouts I would either take him out of it.Or go on the trips with him.Who is to blame for this.I hope the poor child is O.K. and is found soon!It would be a tragedy if something happens to him.AS it is he is probably scared to death.I know I would be if I were in the woods alone!

I recently chaperoned on a field trip at my sons' school . The teacher never took a head count. I was mortified !! I took one silently myself, yet I was never given any instructions as a chaperone or assigned any specific group of children. They are only 9 yrs old. I unfortunately don't trust anyone with my kids anymore either. They are not members of Boy Scouts, nor would they be. This child is lost because an adult was not responsible enough to keep the group together. When on the fieldtrip there were maybe 2 other chaperones but they auditorium was filled with over 300 kids. SO think, 1 teacher per class of roughly 30 kids each and and 3 chaperones. People don't pay enough attention anymore, and it is a really scary thought.

When my son was 8 he went on a field trip to the zoo.You guessed it.They left him his friend and his friends mom behind.Thank God she was there because I don't know what they would have done if they were alone! From then on I always went on field trips.

I always try to get involved with school stuff. My son's first day of school here, he was 7 I believe when we moved here. He was supposed to be on a bus to the daycare. I was at work and received a call from the daycare, they said he never arrived. Well after a bunch of phone calls and investigations, the school had put him on the bus that took him to where we lived. We lived out in the country on a farm. No one around for quite a ways. Thank goodness they found him before they put him off the bus in the middle of no where alone !!

That is really sad, I haven't heard anything about it!! I will definitely think twice about letting my son join something like that when he gets older. I can't believe groups don't do head counts!! Even when I go somewhere with my two kids and they are playing I am always looking for them and making sure I can see them.

You look for your kids because you are a responsible parent.Apparently these people are not responsible enough and should be charged with neglect or something.

Hi there Cipher 2004! I know that this is a very old discussion but I believe it's still applicable in present time. I am one of the parents who cannot find the ability to entrust my son to any organizations at all. My son have been invited twice to a boy scout camping somewhere far from our home, the place was a little short of the woods and no matter how much additional points the teacher offers to those who will join the camping, I just can't. It's always better to be safe than sorry in my opinion especially when my son is involved.
