I am sitting in my office listening to the music from the series Firefly. I really like it, and the instrumental is perfect for background music when I am supposed to be working.
The series Firefly, had a different composer than the movie Serenity. While both are great soundtracks I think I might say that I like the Firefly soundtrack better. It has a little more of a western feel to it. Lots of fiddle.
Which do you like better, the music from Firefly, or the music from Serenity?

I actually prefer the music from Firefly. It might be simply because there is more of it, but I loved how the music from the television show worked really hard to intrigrate western-sounding elements to go with the whole space/western thing the show had going on. Also, there are some really great tracks on the Firefly cd. I especially like that song that River danced to in Bushwacked. Heck, I even like the Firefly theme song now. Though I must admit that it took quite some time to grow on me.

LOL! At first I though the theme song was awful, I would make fun of it like crazy. Then all of a sudden I realized I was singing it and walking down the street and loving it!
I think my all time favorite song from Firefly is "Hero of Canton" but I know that's not really part of the score. Still, it's a hilarious song. When I went to see Serenity on opening night we were all haveing a sing along to both songs while waiting for the movie to start. I think the whole theater was filled with Browncoats!

The Hero of CAnton is pretty clever. The first time I heard it, I almost fell off my seat. I might argue that that episode is one of the best Firefly episodes.

I think that both composers suited the context very well, the Serenity soundtrack suited a movie a little more, but I must admit, I favour the firefly soundtrack in general.

I agree! Each soundtrack when well with either the series or the movie....but I think I like the Firefly soundtrack a little more. Not sure if it's just what I'm used to more or what. But both scores are great work.

I also really liked the Firefly music, I think Joss Whedon described it as folk with some Chinese instruments? I like folk but not country, so it worked for me. The Serenity movie overall was a little harder and sharper around the edges, as it were, less of a homey feeling than the show, and that I think was on purpose, and showed up in the music. So I'd say I like the music from the show better, but not because the music from the movie was worse or anything, just different. Always good to see another Firefly fan around, anyways!

It IS always good to see another firefly fan around :-)
I think you are right...the music for Serenity did seem less "homey". That's a great way to put it.

Two songs: The Firefly theme song and the Ballad of Jayne.
Two songs that keeps me interested in the series and in watching them over and over again.
