Poice Brutality!

I am watching the news. They just showed a video of a female bartender getting the crap beat out of her because she cut off a Chicago policeman from getting anymore drinks. She is five foot three, 120 lbs. He is 3 times her size!!! She is suing him and the City of Chicago. He is charged with felony aggravated assault. He and his partner paid visits to the bar after the incident to harass them in to keeping their mouths shut about this. Appalling to me!
Fortunately, most Police are not corrupt or abuse their power. Unfortunately, some Police do such terrible things, just because they think they can! It gives the good ones a bad name and puts them in awkward situations.
Don't these departments give psyche exams to wage what type of man/woman they are giving this power too? Do they continue these exams on a yearly basis? If so, how is it possible the bad ones are "slipping through the cracks"?

I hadn't seen this yet, but DH is a bouncer at nightclub and has had many, many instances of police officers trying to cause problems and overstep their authority, while they're there drinking off duty. DH is a big guy, and capable of defending himself and throwing the cops out. He also is very close with the local cops (not the ones causing problems!) and they'll stick up for him. I agree with you that something should be done to monitor when these guys cause problems. I think internal affairs does do regular checkups on them, but don't know how much leeway they have to do anything about it.
