I never thought of that LOL My husbands son from his first marriage used to eat us out of house and home and would take ANYTHING he could get his hands on to eat. Wish I would have thought about this then LOL Might have worked to keep him out of the fridge at night LOL

LOL nope I think that is funny. No harm done. My mother
use to say she could tell when I was lying because my nose
would grow and I believed that for a long time. LOL I never wanted to lie in fear that might happen.

No, you were smart. You took out the lie factor. Of course, he probably learned the truth in school real fast but it worked for a while.
Any other good tips to pass on.

That's funny Carolee. I think it was a very good white lie to tell. Children need to learn that it isn't right to take things without asking first. It also nips the issue of lying in the bud also. If they deny eating something than that is lying and can lead to others. It makes the child think you know all,and nothing will get past you. LOL

I think it's funny but I wouldn't really say such things to kids.. I remember how I was disappointed and hated my parents when i discovered some of their "tricks" while I was still very young.. no matter how young the child is, don't underestimate their intelligence, sometimes it's more of a trust than nativity that makes them believe such things and their trust in the grown ups shakes badly when they start discovering the truth..

You are not cruel at all. Kids need to learn to ask for something before they just take it. I made shure that my kids ask first.

I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall when you told him that. I think it is really funny and it is just an innocent type of fib. Whenever, I thought my children told me fibs I used to tell tham that they would get a black mark on their tongue every time they fibbed. I would tell them to stick out their tongue and then tell them that I could see the black mark. I don't think they ever believed me but it used to be fun when they would to the mirror to look at their tongues.

This posts remind me of something that happened to me when i was a kid. My mom used to tell me that if i play in the garden the mosquito will take me away so, i though that the mosquitoes really can carry away from my parents. So, i never use to go out in the garden to play without my mom. Anyway you are not cruel, lolzzzzzz they will find it very funny when they grow up. And i am sure he will tell you how funny he feels about you.

i think that is great. i wish i would of thought about that with my 12 year old. i cant keep her out of the frig. even my 12 year old just said she thinks it was a good idea. i tell my kids to fight nice when they start fighting and they stop fighting to discuss how to do that and then forget they are fighting. insted they say mom is nuts but hey it gets them to shut up lol.

I vote funny. I think every parent has to have their own "magic" powers. It helps keep the kids in line without real harm to them and it brings a little fun to everyone's lives. Mom's having eyes in the back of their heads, Dad's magic musical zoo beneath his chair (just don't pull his finger to hear the elephant trumpet) etc.
My parents once told me that if you swallowed watermelon seeds you'd grow a watermelon in your tummy. It was a silly story, and while it may have made me a little upset as a child, you bet your buttons I'm telling my kids the same thing when I have them!
