Why isn't our government taking care of our troops?

My friend has a son who was in Iraq, and they have had to fight for health benefits. He suffers from some things directly related to his time spent in war. Why? Because of cutbacks. My husband has a friend who finally just got his settlement from being exposed to Agent Orange during Vietnam. Why did it take this many years to get what he deserved? I don't understand this. Our veterans and our troops currently serving deserve better treatment from our government. They have given so much for our country and then they have to fight for much deserved benefits? They stand up against losing their very lives, their health, even their mental health at times for our freedom, for our country and our government sits idly by. They deserve our utmost respect. I think this is appalling.

I know what you mean. My dad is fighting to get his disability claims from the Army. He went to the Gulf War and ever since his health has not been the same. When you sign up for the military they tell you you are not protected by the constitution you only protect and serve it. I know this from experience as well do many of my friends who were in with me. Our troops deserve the best care for protecting us and others and it is sad that they are not. It seems as though the government just doesn't seem to really care to much about the people who are protecting them and keeping them safe. I could probably go on longer but I will just make myself more annoyed at the situation.
