Its because of the contradictions about Jesus and religious contraversies. Most of them dont accept these as true and feel its bad! So they banned some places.

Though it is a fictional book and movie, it does point out some things that the religious leaders wouldn't want you to know or want the false facts going around. Not everyone has the mentality to understand that fiction means that it is not true or it would not be fiction. The author of the book also has another called Angles and Demons. Though I have heard it is a great book I've not had the chance to read it yet. So if you like to read, start with those two books.

Here in the Philippines, The DA VINCI CODE is kind of banned because of many reasons. What i mean by kind of, is that not all theatres showed the movie and it was restricted to people 18 and above, and i think it was the first time that cinema houses checked people for ID's saying that they are 18 years of age. It was banned here because Philippines is a country populated with CATHOLICS, and since VATICAN CITY (the center of christianity banned the movie) the country is also subject to its rule. And since the CHURCH didn't have the power to control MALLS here in our country, the CHURCH didn't get the TOTAL BAN POLICY of the VATICAN. It was banned by the CHURCH because it was considered to be fictional, and it will gravely affect Catholics especially here in our country, some people who are below the poverty line lacks knowledge whatsoever of what the CHURCH is trying to say, which makes them succeptible to the movie.

There is no problem with the movie. Personally, I love it, It was great-- the actors, plot, cinematography, everything. If there is one problem, that would be with the people who run Catholism. They are so paranoid that they think a single movie like da vinci code can ruin their centuries existence. If they were really successful in spreading God's words and putting into people's mind the true essence of "GOD", they shouldn't be that anxious even if movies like da vinci code, which portrays sensitive matters, would be screened.
