Grandmama's kitchen was a large room with a doors opening out on the side of the wrap around porch and the other out to the woodshed and on out to the outhouse.
As you walked into the side porch door there was a large oak pedistal table with cloth tablecothes on it(always 2 so that there was a series of points falling from the table. In the center of the table was the salt, pepper, sugar, and a small apple shaped cookie jar(always had fresh cookies).Under these items was a clean crumb free mand crocheted square placemat. In the middle of the room 3/4 way back stood a larg black wood cook store wit a resavior off the end that was always full of piping hot water. There was always something in the oven or on top of that stove.directly behind the stove was a small cot that granmamam laid down on when she would stay up puttin up fruits or veggies for winter.I loved to lay there hiden and cosy.
Behind the stove at the back wall was sliding doors that disappeared into the wall.Behind these was the dining room with a long table that would seat 26 people easily. To the left of the dining room door were 2 other doors one went upstairs and the other went to the big pantry. If you went in the pantry door it looked like you were walking down a hall but it was really doors on either side. One was to the cellar and the other was the most important one in the house. It was a dumb waiter that was used to send the laundry up and down the stairs or trays of food. This was no longer used by anyone but me.I could use the pully to take myself all the way to then attic or the cellar.I loved this little space and spent hours in it.I would go in the and listen to the conversation in the kitchen.I heard my first swear words this way.But the best part about my hiding place was that I could close my eyes and smell the fruits boiling to make jelly or the mable sap simmering for maple candy or cookies or pies baking and the herbs drying all over the kitchen rafters, and just a hint of hard work sweat..not bo but the sweat from a clean person's hard work.Sometimes now i close my eyes and try to conjure up that mingled smell and I get a lump in my throat.
Come on and walk for a minute down memory lane to a good memory of a loved spot for you as a child.Share yours

My granny on my mums side had 10 of a family , we used to all go to her house on a Sunday night all the adults and us kids , thy adults all played cards and the kids used to play games , we used to go home early hours in the morning , we used to play on till we fell asleep on the carpet in front of he fire , My dad was a coal miner and we used to get the miners bus back home in the early hours , I still think fondly of those times too , and my granny always wore her apron with the flowers on it and a big bow tied at the back xx

what a wonderful little story,
One of my favourite spots as a child was the big cement slabs of a school. It was across the street from my friends house and we would sit there with her cousin and play games, the alphabet game, one of us would start, my name is anna and I come from alaska with a basket of apples,
the next person
my name is barbara and I come from barbados with a basket of bananas,
the person who couldn't think of anything was out of the game and we would do that until there was a winner.

My favorite place to be was the river fishing with my grandpa and little brother. Whenever I go home I go to the river and remember my grandpa.
