The ening for 300 sucks

The movie is based on a historical event, or at least, on a graphic novel based on a movie about a historical event(!), and while not everything is accurate, of course, the ending is. That is what happened to the Spartans in that particular instance. The good guys just don't get to win every time:)

don't be like that....what they did is the exact meaning of GLORY or as they call it BEAUTIFUL DEATH...remember when King Leonidas said to the soldiers to prepare for GLORY?...and besides they just didn't talk about how brave and strong they were, but shown it all through out, they fought with thousands of persian didn't they? and embraced their deaths than to accept xerxes will...although they know that defeat will eventually come their way they still went on, just like the arcadians said to King Leonidas, of how few soldiers that he brought against xerxes massive soldiers, he showed that eventhough they're just a handfull, they are united, trained against one sole goal, and that's to fight and die for Sparta and it's people...now, that's brave...if it's still not brave and strong enought for you, then be my guest....and besides that's just what really happened to King Leonidas and 300 soldiers according to history...if ever the director or writers put something else just to make the ending more justified, then, it wouldnt be a historic movie based on an epic novel in the first place....althought it makes me sad that there wont be a second one, coz they died in the end...the memory of it will still remain with me, just like how it does in all of the people who really appreciated it....but you're right....it really is a COOL MOVIE....


no offense meant here...just trying to justify the real essence of the movie, atleast for me...i'm glad you appreciated it...but i'm sorry that you were disappointed...

good comment but its a good movie about heroes that you may call them... and at the end they died with glory and no turning back. You may call it stupid when you know you are out numbered in a battle atleast they killed more than their own numbers.

Sorry to say but don't you dare criticize 300… it was perfect

I found th ending for the 300 great,the only way for them to survive was to retreat or surrender.
Spartans learned to Never retreat,never surrender.
So when Xerxes a self-proclaimed god on earth threatens to enslave the Spartans if they do not surrender to him, Leonidas fights back like a true Spartan.
Leonidas and his army was killed and died holding what he swered, to go to die bravely.
And Leonidas said in the movie that if he dies,all of sparta will go to war,and that's what happened.

all he needed to do was to show that xerxes wasnt a god, as he though, by showing that he bled like everyone else. if you watch it again youll hear how leonidas says that he will make xerxes bleed before he dies. lots of things make sense when you watch it a second time

Yes I agree!! It sucks...

..I think the ending was awesome, I loved how it showed just how much Leonidas loved his wife, even through all the hell of war and blood and battle he thought of his wife over glory at the very end. And as far as Leonidas "only making Xerxes bleed" that was exactly what he wanted to do. He knew he couldn't exactly kill him, but he could destory his false legend by making him bleed a little and showing everyone else in Greece that he is simply a man with an army of slaves...amazing movie!!

there's no better ending than ending the movie that way...after all, it's historically inevitable...you can't change what happened 2480 years ago...they gave their life not only for their City-state which is sparta but for their country as well. it awakened Greece and eventually defeated the persians at the battle of Plataea in 479 B.C.
i totally agree with ya about the movie being cool and all... they shot the movie for only 60 days then did a year of SFX editing...whew! that's a lot of hardwork for the Special Effects team there...hehehe...

The ending was exactly what happened to the Battle of Thermopylae where the movie was based. The army of 300 Persians lost to the "massive army of Xerxes" but not without honor or glory.
