Strings thickness for your electric guitar  

I dont have a electric fguitar I have a pianoforte, but I learn to play it.are so hard...........

I've been playing for about a year and a half so I've mostly used .009 guage strings. A couple of months ago I started using .010 guage strings and I've noticed that I had to develop stronger callouses for the guage because my fingers would hurt after about 30 min. With 9 guage strings I can play for hours with no bother to my finger.

Now the Im starting to get used to the .010 guage strings and they seem to handle string bending better than the .009s.

Hi layney, as most of us i startet with the normal 009-042 gauge but since a long time i prefer regular 010-046 strings. I also did try 010-052 and 011-52, but i mostly use Dean Markley regular Blue Steel strings. I have used Ernie Ball, GHS, D´Addario and some other´s i guess but came back on Dean Markley. I just don´t like the 009 strings because they feel so spongy and i have better control on string bending and vibrato with the thicker strings. 011 gauge is perfect when tuning down a half step, WOW... Stevie Ray Vaughn even used 013 strings on his guitars with a half step down tuning.

Yesterday i've put some .009 strings on my guitar.

I use Ernie Ball 009 strings. I think of switching to 010 though, as it really gives a tougher sound, especially if you like to tune your guitar something like a Drop D.
