Dumb Question??????????

I have this bag of brown sugar in cupboard. Anyone know of any way that I get the hard as rock candy lump softened up? Without altering it's taste? Any good methods of storing the stuff to prevent it from going hard? Open to any and all suggestions and ideas Wendy

I am not sure how to re-soften the bag that you have, but I know that they make "brown sugar keepers" they are usually small ceramic discs (sometimes they are shaped like bears or flowers) that you drop into your bag of brown sugar & that absorbs the extra moisture in the sugar to keep it from hardening. Never heard of thatLOL I am absolutely sure I won't be able to get that here. I mean I can't even buy a pair of socks in this town LOL Sounds good though I will have to keep my eyes open when I am out and about Thanks Wendy

That is not a dumb question, I think many of us have had to deal with the hardening of brown sugar. I have not used any of the techniques I am about to list but I hope they help. Brown sugar becomes hardened because it has lost its moisture. Therefore, here are some ways to bring moisture back to the brown sugar. Place an open bag of sugar in the microwave with a cup of water next to it. Microwave on high (100%) for 2-3 minutes. If your microwave doesn't have a carousel then you should manually turn the bag after every minute. NOTE: this isn't a permanant fix, any unused sugar will dry up again but you can repeat the process every time you use the sugar. Place the brown sugar in a airtight container with a slice of fresh bread on top of it. Leave this sit overnight. Your sugar should have moisture back in it by morning. NOTE (I AM SURE THIS WOULD WORK B/C I KNOW THIS DOES WORK WITH COOKIES..THE BREAD GIVES HARDENED COOKIES MOISTURE AND THEY ARE SOFT AGAIN)If you have a large amount of sugar that needs softened..maybe use 2 slices of bread. You could also place the hardened sugar in a baking pan and put into the oven. The temperature of the over should be about 250 degrees F. Check after about 5 minutes. If not soft, just keep checking every few minutes until soft and ready to use. Well I hope some of these work, good post. Have a great day/night.
