yes, it is one of the best traits a child should learn, to respect the elderly. because it will be their foundation that being a child, they should learn to respect the elderly. so that when they grow old, they would know how to be respected by the younger generation.

Yes....yes...yes! There is nothing else that has ever crossed my mind! I always get compliments about the good manners & graciousness of my 27 year old son from all folks, not just elders. Is there any other way?

Oh definatley. We're hispanic, and that is very big in our family. Our family members have lived inito their early 100's, so we go way back, 5 gen.
My daughter who is 2, is having a bit of trouble, but we always inforce it.
Don't think there's much of that in this generation.

First of all, I don't have any kids for myself.. I m too young to handle that responsibilty at present.. But I think parents shud instill in their kids to respect their elders.. Only if they respect their elders, will they be respected by their own children when they grow up.. Well that's what I had been taught by my parents...

Yes, eventhough they are not my children. Actually they are my nieces and nephews.I always teach and encourage them to respect the elders I make it a point that they say polite words when they talk to elders and treat them with respect. I try to make them understand that someday they would grow old also and need certain respect. I also teach them to respect others not only elders, because respect is essential in our daily interaction with different people. Good luck and Happy posting!

Oh Yeah! I am an old fashioned believer in manners and respect. I have a feeling that some of the young people today don't respect their elders or each other. I find it interesting that so many "tribal" families teach respect. I have seen programs on the National Geographic Channel about some African tribes who live very sparse lives and yet the elder members are always respected. I have also seen this in the history of some of our own Native American history. Unfortunately modern life style has many of these losing that part of their history. We really need to take more time to teach our children to respect their elders. Look what the younger ones could learn from their elders if they just paid attention.

i do not have children yet.
but i can answer this question quiet easily.
i will teach my children to respect elders.
the same as my family has taught me and my brother.
this is very important to honor any human being and help
them when they need it.
