I never understood why this idea didn't catch on more. I thought solar panels were the future of electricity production! Houses with solar panels on top, heck even cars!! Wouldn't that be something!! Like a hybrid car that ran on soalr power during the day, but gas (or stored electricty) at night. WOW!! But yes, things like that, that would lower the profits of the companies who run this country will never be allowed out of the drawing room. Look how long it took hybrids to get out into the public eye. Fuel companies foaght long and hard to keep them off the streets. I wonder if that's why solar power has never grown either.

i have been experimenting with solar panels and solar power for several years. my workshop is powered by solar energy, although i can only use one power tool at a time, ( i only have 2 hands lol). i use the sun to power my low draw tools, and hydro to power the large draw tools. i have my system set up so i can switch from solar to hydro. their both on the same circuit, just independant of each other. if you need any info , i would be glad to explain my setup in laymans terms

WOW, That's very awesome!! Do you have panels on the roof? What about at night, or a cloudy day? Is the enery stored so that you can still use it at night, or is it lik ethe calculators that go off as soon as the light dims? I am VERY impressed! I would love to have solar energy.

I don't know why it didn't take off. I do remember years ago when it was more in the news...maybe it was the fad idea of it. I do know that it can be pretty expensive, so perhaps that is why most ordinary people haven't joined the ranks of the "green" advocates. I read where it cost about $40,000 to convert an average home to solar power...who has that kind of money to spare? Here is a link to a site that will help you convert with no upfront cost http://renu.citizenre.com/index.php?c=1175410692

Wow, I didn't even think about having to convert anything. I figured it would just go into some electricity holding box and you'd use it the same as any other electricity. My house is already green, just not in that way (haa haa... lame joke!)
