Arthurian Legend | | I'm a great fan of Arthurian Legend and have often thought about what it would have been like to have been living in the Dark Ages.
If you could turn back the clock to Arthurian times, which character would you have liked to have been, and why? Would you have liked to live at Camelot, or Avalon, or somewhere else? Maybe Merlin would have been a good man to be. I would have liked to have been Morgan, or maybe Igraine, but there are lots to choose from including Saxons.
So, using your imagination, which would you have liked to be and where would you have liked to live?

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | Lol.. you do make me laugh Crosa. Weren't they the days when Princes were turned to toads, or frogs and the ladies had to kiss them to change them back? I quite thought you would have been in your element there, especially if in the absence of mischievous little boys who liked to suck frogs to death! ha ha ha
They were only called the dark ages because there's not a very clear history... I'm sure they had daylight just like we do, and they used candles and lamps to light their way at night. So, calm down, my friend and think again. I think they were quite romantic times!
Brightest Blessings.

| | 2. Adrenochrome (736) | 3 years ago | Having just glimpsed at Crosa's answer, I should like to say, I don't feel their was as much 'darkness' in those times as we have today. Morgan le Fay? She slept with her brother to give birth 'to a God'? I could bore you senseless with one of my diatribes on the truth behind the legend, the fact that the stories originated in France, not England, and that the Holy Grail story was added in the 12th Century. But, for once, I shalln't. Galahad, son of Lancelot (by his wife, the daughter of the Fisher King, Pyres), and last member, but noblest, of the Round Table.

Adrenochrome (736) | 3 years ago | Forgot to mention one of my all time favourite movies, John Boormans 'Excalibur' is superb, even today, though filmed in the early 80s. It stars Helen Mirren, Cherie Lunghi, Patrick Stewart, Gabriel Byrne, and the magnificent Nicol Williamson, whose portrayal of Merlin has never been bettered! If you haven't yet seen it, get it today, it really brings the hole 'Morte D'Arthur' story to life.

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | I think I've discovered in you a secret passion for Arthurian Legend, if I'm not mistaken Adrenochrome! lol. You're very knowledgeable on British History... I think that's great. The 'God' whom Morgan Le Fay gave birth to was killed! lol. Not only that, she wasn't aware she was sleeping with her brother at the time, as she did it in ritual!
Thank you again for a very knowledge packed response, my friend. Brightest Blessings.

Adrenochrome (736) | 3 years ago | I adore Arthurian Legend; love, chivalry and betrayal, it has everything. They simply don't write stuff like that anymore. Mordred did die, but only Excalibur could do that, and he did kill Arthur (if Tennyson is to be believed)! It's not surprising that it is as popular today, as it ever was. All the best.

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | Yes, like you I find the period fascinating. I like to read Bernard Cornwell's versions. I have a lot of his books but haven't ventured to the Sharpe Series' yet. Merlin is my all-time favourite; such a cunning man! lol.
I might just take a peek at your liked version of Excalibur though. It could differ slightly but it sounds interesting.
Thank you for your further respons Adren. I find you a very learned person, with some very interesting tales. Keep them going... I will follow! lol.
Brightest Blessings my friend.

| | 3. Bizziebod (2156) | 3 years ago | Hi Darkwing! I'm quite fascinated with Arthurian legend, although I don't know that much about it. I shall be off to Tintagel when the weather turns better to do some photography as both Tintagel/Boscastle/Trebarwith are my favourite places in the country and literally only about an hour away! I'll post some pics when I go! I would have loved to be some fair maiden living in the castle at Tintagel as it's in a spectacular part of Cornwall!

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | Yes, so I believe, Bizzie. I haven't yet been to Tintagel but I do have intentions of visiting some day and certainly look forward to you posting your pictures. They will give me some insight as to how the place looks... I'm always looking it up on the internet. lol.
I have, however, been to Glastonbury; the Tor, Abbey and Chalice Well Gardens. The latter is a truly magickal place. I can't describe the feelings I had there... suffice to say, I will certainly be going back there this year... hopefully for Solstice, but we'll see. I also love Stonehenge. If you haven't been there, and I daresay you have... that is a truly wonderful place to be. I felt the powers there, as I'm sure many others have. Theres a kind of draw to these places and Arthurian Legend is linked with them all.
Last year, I visited Wayland Smithy, where I had a strange experience indeed and West Kennet Longbarrow, another haunting place.
Thank you for your interesting response. I really must get down to Tintagel. Brightest Blessings my friend. x

| | | 4. Leedsrbest1973 (83) | 3 years ago | Yes, I like Arthurian legend. I especially liked Sir Lancelot. He was a bit of a devil, but on the other hand, he was good with all the younger boys who became soldiers with Arthur's Army and he taught them a lot of his skills. I like Merlin too, especially the Disney cartoon of him, in the Sword in the Stone Video. lol.

Darkwing (7519) | 3 years ago | I like the Disney cartoon too. I love Merlin's owl in that cartoon.
Thank you for your response and brightest blessings.
