Pursuit of Happiness Question? |
|
Don't get me wrong...I LOVED THIS MOVIE!! It's a MUST SEE!! I bought the dvd yesterday!! However, one question that always concerned my is Why didn't Chris get a part-time job when times were so hard?? His wife worked 2 shifts to make due - he couldn't find another gig to help make ends meet?? I know the movie had to give the abridge version but come on...

1. asteriskec (752) | 3 years ago | I thought about this too but I figured that maybe he felt he couldn't apply because he's always hopeful that he can still sell all of his "machines". Perhaps with all the walking around and offering the item to doctors and other medical professionals, he always didn't have enough time plus he was always bothered by a lot of problems including domestic ones.

| pndimonium (89) | 3 years ago | True - but when the 1st late rent notice appeared...I'd hope my man would put down his machine and go teach night school or something to help make ends meet. When does family priorities supercede pride and/or common sense??

2. gardengalz (1778) | 3 years ago | I liked the movie Pursuit of Happiness. I think that he invested a lot of money in the medical machines. Because of this, he spent a lot of time trying to sell them to get back his money. He also took care of his son because his wife worked both jobs and I believe that he also did most of the household chores too.

| pndimonium (89) | 3 years ago | I hear you...but wouldn't a home (be it messy or neat) be a higher priority?? And if he got an evening job he could still spend some days (weekends) selling the machines that he invested so much money in.

gardengalz (1778) | 3 years ago | I hear what you are saying. The wife was run ragged working and he had a choice to sell these machines. I think he learned many things the hard way.

desertdarlene (5842) | 3 years ago | I agree with that last statement. Sometimes, some people have to learn that way or they can't improve. I would love to read the book as I have heard that the movie dramatized a lot of things. Perhaps he did try to get a part-time job and couldn't be hired.

3. yvonne1968 (796) | 3 years ago | I watched this last night and i loved it. I have bought the deluxe edition from my local target. I havet watched the extra disks nor listen to the book on CD yet. I think he didnt get a part time job, because he was trying to sell those scanners, and then his other job was looking after his son. When he was doing the internship,he really had a full time job, then looking after his son and trying to sell the machines and with them sleeping on the buss i dont think he really would of had time for another job. I love this movie and cant wait to listen to the book.

| pndimonium (89) | 3 years ago | I was really referring to prior to the internship and lack of income that frustrated his wife and got them kicked out of the apartment. Please let me know if the book expands on his life. I know the movie is just a capsule and by no means am I criticizing the true story & the man...just soemthing that made me go hmmmm...

4. jynxypanda (312) | 3 years ago | I think it was because he invested too much in the machines and he gets that constant reminder of being failure when he sees them so he wants to get rid of them as soon as possible. And I don't think he would have gotten a better job with his current status. I really loved this movie! Such an inspirational tale. Chris Gardner's the man!

5. desertdarlene (5842) | 3 years ago | Well, he actually had a job selling his scanners. Unfortunately, he didn't do his research before he invested in that juncture. I don't know why he didn't get a job otherwise. I know that some people have a hard time getting work for various reasons. I think his lack of a college education was a big hindrance. He was obviously a hard worker when he wanted to be, so anyone who would have hired him would have been happy.

6. laisse (446) | 3 years ago | Because we was already working more hours than full time selling bone-density scanners. Being a salesman IS a full-time job, although he was working many more hours than would be considered full-time in order to sell the bone-density scanners.
