I use to get migraines a lot, I'd have them once or twice a day everyday for about 4 or 5 days sometimes. I would get the aura (the lightening looking spot that you see before the headache starts) and then the headache, usually not being able to function for the rest of the day. It is not fun. I found that when I had them really bad, if I'd throw up, the headache would get better, but that's not really something you wanna force yourself to do every time you get a migraine. I've tried imitrex, exedrin migraine, and frova . . . none of those worked for me, they just made me feel worse. The only thing that would work for me sometimes was as soon as I knew I a migraine was coming on, take 2 aleve, and a couple of magnesium supplements, and drink a cup of coffee. That comination usually helps me. If you haven't tried taking a magnesium supplement daily, I suggest you try. That completely stopped my migraines, but it doesn't work for everyone.

I use midrin. It's a persecription medication. Now if I can get the migraine when it first starts sometimes Excederine or Tyelnol will work but usually if I don't get it right away I end up in bed. I take the midrin and sleep for a few hours and then I'm fine.

I would take Excedrin for migraines. It does the trick for me when I start to feel one coming on.

Oh, when I get migraines I know it is a possibility I might end up in the ER. Right now, I take the prescription medication Amerge, but what worked well for me was Imitrex shots and Zomig ZMT (both prescritions). My insurance wouldn't pay for those when I switched insurance companies. What helped me PREVENT the migraines was seeing the chiropractor once or twice a week. It's just too bad I couldn't afford it anymore. I had no idea it helped my head so much until the migraines started to return. I wish you luck. Half of the time I get a migraine I end up in the ER because no prescription has worked. So they are an awful and I have sympathy for you.
