When cooking i use white onions. It has a not-too-strong flavor and is sweet specially when cooking corned beef and pizzas. Green is the same but is frequently large. Red is too flavorful and too strong that I get into tears when slicing it.

I actually use a combination of both white and red onions. Luckily I can purchase them already diced up in a container in the produce section of my grocery store. I keep them in the freezer when I need them for certain recipes like home-made chili.

oooh, dont freeze them, they lose flavor! It is just as easy to keep them around and cut up as you need them. happy cooking

But since freezing lose onion's flavor, I might as well store them is a chiller. :)

I love white onions! I use them in most everything! Even when frying potatoes for breakfeast! We always have them around. I also love cooking with red onions, very very flavorful and juicy! LOVE onions

I like using the red and white onions especially for sauteing and basic dishes. I use the green ones for soups. Ditto with the corned beef --- I like the white onions for that. Very flavorful and I like the smell :) Revs up my appetite!

It depends on what menu that i am going to prepare.Normally used in cooking, onion can makes the body warmer and improves blood circulation.
With its characteristic flavor and aroma, the onion has become a staple in nearly every cuisine around the world. This underground bulb is related to the lily and has a wide and diverse family. There are more than 300 species in its genus (Allium), many of which are native to North America.

Tip:
To avoid tearing, caused by sulfur compounds in onions, try holding onions under water to peel, then freeze them for 20 minutes before chopping.

For those who cook at home, you'll notice that we will usually weep when we cut onions. Is it a good thing or bad? It turns out that it is a good thing since that kind of weeping actually releases the toxins in the body.

Oh, thank you for the information. I never knew we release toxins. So it wont be bad to chop onions without freezing tham. :)

I use red more often when I cook specially when I saute, because it has a stronger flavor and gets really sweet. I use white onions more for salads, pizzas and sandwiches.

Yes I agree. Red onions are good especially when cooking meats and fishes dishes.

I generally use yellow onions.They are good in curries.I do use red sometimes,but I got used to yellow onions.I do use green onions.They are very tasty too.Almost in all dishes I uses the onions.

Most of the time i will use both garlic and the shallots (red onion) to be put in my cooking. These two types of onion have their own specialty - garlic mostly will gives the taste to my food while the shallots will gives a nice aroma of the cooked food. The green onion i use mostly in my omelette's preparation. The green onion will makes the eggs smells nice and tasty a bit sweet too. I also use the green onion in my sweet and sour gravy for fried fish, chicken or prawn.

I'm a married guy. Generally my wife cooks food but sometimes I manage to get in kitchen and cook something good. She hates me entering kitchen as I am not used to clean all kitchen after cooking. I use white onion onlt generally as they are good to taste and adding little flavour in them is fantastic. I like green onion too but they are strong and can be used to prepare vegetables curry.

We have red and yellow onions here, the red mostly goes for salads because it is tastier and looks good in it, the yellow for boiling /cooking.
Also we use spring onions a lot but only on bread. My hubby enjoys eating the green part of it and I like the white part we both enjoy that on a slice of bread.
Sometimes we buy shallots or the really big onions which are milder than the yellow ones.
