| The Lenten Season  | | | |  Here in the Philippines a lot of traditional activities are done during the Holy Week. There are some who visit churches and stay there for vigil, there are some who sing about the passion of Christ which we call "pabasa", there are those who carry the cross in a procession and then have themselves nailed to their crosses.
I always remember watching religious movies on TV. There's also the Way of the Cross where people join the procession and stop at every station and pray. There's the Visita Iglesia where we went to 7 different churches and prayed in one night and we walked all the way til we got home later. It was fun because there were many of us so we didn't notice the distance and it wasn't very tiring.
On Easter we would go to mass early in the morning. There's the easter egg hunt which I experienced only recently. A lot of Filipinos would also go swimming on Easter Sunday.

| |  i'm from the philippines, too, and i enjoy our filipino traditions of visita iglesia, way of the cross and the like. it's always a reawakening experience for me, really.

| |  Here in Germany its not observed too much, I cant have this week off this year as I am having sick leave now already and work will pile up on my desk.
There are lots of people who will go to church three times a year, and thats Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Eve.
In my childhood fasting in the Lenten Season for me meant try to stick to the No Sweets Rule except for my Birthday which normally is in Lenten Season.
During the Holy Week my mother was still busily doing Spring Cleaning till Wednesday. Thursday we went to Church to commemorate Christ giving us the Eucharist, and as I was a member of the Church Choir after that Mass normally we rehearsed for Good Friday one last time.
Thursday also means special food in the area where I come from, its called Green Sauce and is made with mayonnaise or yoghurt and herbs so its literally green. As its a day of fasting its not eaten with meat but with boiled eggs and potatoes.
Good Friday meant a very long Holy Mass around 3 pm the moment Christ died on the Cross, then Saturday Night Resurrection Mass or Sunday Morning Holy Mass for these who feel uncomfortable when the church is packed full.
As this year I will have to work I will go to church on Good Friday and either Saturday night or Easter Sunday morning, I will not eat meat for Thursday to Saturday.
AS I am diabetic I shouldnt fast any more.
