What kind of vacuum do you have?

I have a Kirby, with the optional shampoo kit. It was very expensive but I really think that it was worth it for the most part.
I'm curious what kind of sweeper most people have. Do you have a canister or upright? What brand? Was it an expensive model or fairly inexpensive? And how do you rate it for cleaning?
My kirby is an upright, made in the U.S.A., very expensive, works well but is heavier then I like.

I have a Bissell upright model that only cost me about $150.
My parents bought a Kirby back in 1987 that they still have, but it's a hassle (and expensive) to send the parts back to Kirby (or a dealer) if something breaks, so they've retired it and have the same vacuum as me. I had a rep from Kirby come and do a demo back in October, but after pricing it out, as well as bags (and I HATE changing bags) I decided to stick with mine. Hard to give no as an answer to those guys, though!
Mine's great -- I have a dog, 2 cats and some not to fastidious roommates and it always does the trick, usually sucking up more that I figured was there. And I love that it's bagless.. it makes clean-up so much easier.

My small zoo is why I decided to do that Kirby thing. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've bought every type and style out there with no real winner. The Kirby seems to do the better job and hopefully will hold up longer! LOL

A Kirby!! hmmm How many people have still got them I wonder? They were very expensive but over-engineered and very well built. I used to do loft insulation and at one house I was asked to dump a couple of boxes with vacuum cleaner parts, from out of the loft. I found that the boxes contents made up a complete Kirby vacuum and a set of attachments for spray painting and all sorts of jobs!!! However, at home we have the Kirby which works a treat but is big and heavy, plus two Dyson machines. You guessed it.. One for upstairs, one for downstairs.
Have you noticed how the noise is ok if you are doing the job, but if someone else is vacuuming, it sounds awful, I have to leave the room!! lol

You are so right! Definitely "noisier" when someone else is vacuuming. LOL
I believe I have the painting kit too. It came along with the Kirby. I think the only "optional" part I bought was the shampoo kit. I love mine indeed. They are ungodly in price but worth it.

I have a Kärcher 2101, and I'm very happy to have it. It was quite expencive, over $200. I bought it long ago, I guess it was last century (lol!) but it still works very well. What I like most at it is that it doesn't need a dustbag at all, and I also can vacuum water with it. A great tool, hopefully we'll spend many happy years together.

Well, I am surprised to see so many Kirby's have been posted already, but you can add another to the list. I have a heavy Kirby in my closet. It was costly, but the shampoo unit really has saved me a lot of money.

I also own a Kirby. It was expensive but by far the best vacuum I have ever owned. With everything that it can do it's amazing. I use it to clean my carpets every couple of months. I vacuum almost daily. The bags are a bit inconvenient to get as I have to go to a store that sells Kirby bags and cleaners for cleaning my carpet, but they last a long time. I purchased mine in Feb of 2002 and it's still going strong. I have yet had to change the belt. Buy far the best appliance that I have ever bought for the money. :)

I've seen people pass them down generation to generation! They are so well made. I love mine too but my biggest complaint is the heaviness. I went through so many brands of vacuums that I finally decided I had to try something!!!!!!!! I bought everything from $40 specials to $500 ones. I figured by this point if I could find one that would last til I die I'll be happy! LOL

SEBO and Miele dominate my home. The Germans know a thing or two about performance, power and quietness on the ears.
